SEND at Nevill Road Infant School
Our aspiration for SEND children is that they are and feel they are included fully in school life. They should build strong relationships with children and adults alike to help them become resilient to any challenges they may face. SEND children should be nurtured to find their strengths and build on these. We aspire for SEND children to have positive self-esteem and an ‘I can’ attitude. SEND children will be working towards progressing in all areas of their personal and academic development and will make progress towards their next steps with the support of a flexible, child-centred curriculum. We have high aspirations for ALL children based on their individual starting point. We have an ‘open door’ policy and I try to be very responsive to parental concerns with a phone call, this can be followed up with a face-to-face-meeting. We use the Stockport co-production charter to ensure parents, staff and children work together towards common goals. Parents are apart of the SEND evaluation process and will be invited to attend statutory end of year meetings.
If you have any queries or questions regarding to SEND please contact our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO) - Mrs Charlie Scott or call 01614394817 (Tuesday - Thursday)

Testimonials from SEND families
“I wanted to write this testimonial to hopefully reassure other parents & carers with a child with additional needs, that they will be in the best possible care at Nevill Road. Through the school’s amazing SENCO and teachers, they’ll make sure everything’s in place to make sure your child is happy and has the opportunity to reach their full potential."
"You may already be aware of your child’s additional needs or like me started their journey in early years at Nevill Road, which was when my daughter’s additional needs came to light."
"Our story … After joining nursery it became apparent that my daughter had sensory sensitivities and social communication difficulties within the setting. School picked up on this quickly and put in place the additional support she needed to initially cope and then go on to enjoy it and thrive there. School were also quick to put the wheels in motion for child development assessments which eventually led to us obtaining an EHCP."
"The extra support my daughter has received has been incredible, from having a 1-2-1 support in class to help her learning, a sensory diet to keep her regulated, to intervention groups to support her social development. We’re now almost at the end of our journey in the infant school and are now preparing for the transition to the Junior school. I have to say that I feel so reassured that she’ll be just as cared for there when she moves on."
"Not only do school go the extra mile for the children with additional needs, there is support for parents & carers too. Mrs Scott (the school’s SENDCo) runs a coffee morning each term which is a great opportunity to chat to her and also other parents who are going through the same thing. If like me you sometimes feel anxious and worried about how things will turn out because your child doesn’t follow the ‘norm’, it helps to talk to others and it makes you realise that they will be ok!”
“The support school have given us as a family has been fantastic. From initial assessment of SEND needs to the finalisation of the EHC Plan they have been open, honest and supportive and guided us through the whole process. Regular SEND meetings really help us all work together as a team to ensure our child reaches his full potential.”
"My son has been supported by SEND since he started in Reception. This support has been more far reaching than we could have ever imagined, particularly through the period he was shielding during the COVID lockdown. School work was delivered to the house and we were supported further with a weekly phone call. We always knew that help was available at the end of the phone or email should we need it and that was a source of great comfort to us."
